United Nations (UN) Secretary General Ki-Moon Ban talked about the global efforts to reduce carbon emissions. He talked about the effects of climate change on people and the environment. He talked about the responsibilities of the delegates in reduction of carbon emissions.

Secretary General Ban briefly talked about a car bombing in Algiers, Algeria by al-Qaeda Organization in the Islamic Maghreb that killed 31 people, including 17 UN officials.

Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono welcomed the delegates into Indonesia. He also talked about the goals of lower emissions of carbon and a reduction in the effects of climate change. He emphasized the need for a solution rather than assigning blame. close
