Following oral argument before the U.S. Supreme Court in the case of Town of Greece v. Galloway, lawyers from both sides spoke to reporters and answered questions on the steps of the court. The separation of church and state case regarded prayers said before a town council meeting in upstate New York. Susan Galloway and Linda Stephens, the two women who filed suit against the Town Board’s prayer practices, also spoke. They said that they were not asking for the prayer to stop, but that the Town Board conduct it in a way that was non-secular. They both argued that in its current form the prayer was coercive as people who chose not to participate drew negative attention from the same people they were petitioning for redress. close
