Religious leaders spoke to reporters about recent events surrounding the circulation of political cartoons in Europe depicting the Prophet Muhammad. The original publication in a Danish newspaper and subsequent republication by papers in other countries following initial public outcry had led to sectarian violence and protest against the West is several Islamic countries.
