Nation: Retelling the Life, published by Indiana University Press. The author said that Carry Nation (1846-1911) was known for her bold activism, religious zeal, and hatchet-wielding tactics. Professor Grace became interested in and researched the prohibition activist who drew on her exploration of the Holiness Religion to smash her first saloon in Kansas at the age of 54 in response to the constant violations of the state’s prohibition law. Ms. Grace also described other aspects of Nation’s family and life.
