Scott Turow talked about capital punishment, a subject he takes up in his next book, and assessed the arguments for and against state-sponsored execution. He explained why, for largely unconventional reasons, he has finally come to the conclusion that the death penalty should be abolished. He also talked about his appointment by Illinois Governor George Ryan to a commission to study the record of capital punishment in the state. Mr. Turow, a partner at a Chicago law firm, is the author of several best-selling novels, including Presumed Innocent, The Laws of Our Fathers, and Personal Injuries. close
