A panel discussion was held on the criteria that presidential candidates Barack Obama and John McCain would use when choosing judges for the federal courts. Topics included the appropriate role for the Senate and how forthcoming nominees should be expected to be during their confirmation hearings. Participants responded to audience members' questions following the discussion. Linda Greenhouse moderated.
