The subcommittee heard testimony on the financial activities of the Bank of Credit and Commerce International from a 13 year veteran employee of BCCI in America. Mr. Sakhia, testifying on the activities of the international financial institution charged with laundering money for drug dealers and handling the finances of known terrorists, said the heads of First American Bankshares, an American bank, must have known of BCCI’s ownership of their institution. Earlier in the summer, the heads of First American, Robert Altman and Clark Clifford, testified to the subcommittee that they were unaware of BCCI’s ownership of First American.
