Occupy D.C. and October2011 Movement organizers hosted a panel discussion proposing changes to the federal budget. The event was organized as a “hearing” on the state of the economy, economic inequality, and social mobility that would counter congressional hearings on Capitol Hill. Participants called for an increase in taxes for the wealthy and a single-payer health care system. They also called for lower defense spending and social security reform. close
