During a campaign swing through New Hampshire, President George H.W. Bush stopped at the Pinkerton Academy in Derry and addressed an enthusiastic audience in the school’s auditorium. Preceded by baton twirlers, a four-piece folk music band, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Senator Warren Rudman (R-NH) and his wife Barbara Bush, President Bush, who had stopped at the Pinkerton Academy four years earlier in the 1988 campaign, read jokes from a teleprompter and urged his supporters to continue the prominence of America on the global political scene by electing him in November. He predicted America would meet its current “challenge,” and called on Congress to pass his administration’s legislation to stimulate the economy. He said that compared to the other candidates, “I have a plan, and they don’t have a clue.” close
