In the Spring and Summer of 1961, black and white Freedom Riders rode buses throughout the South in an effort to eradicate racial segregation in interstate travel and faced assaults and arrests that helped to ignite the Civil Rights movement nationwide. Officials and activists spoke about the progress that had been made. There was music from the Freedom Singers.
