A hearing was held to review the safety of over-the-road buses and the effectiveness of current Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations governing bus safety. Senator Sherrod Brown, who co-sponsored motor coach legislation with Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, testified first. Family members of bus accident victims, safety advocates, and federal safety officials also testified. Topics included driver fatigue, prevention and survivability methods, and certification of bus companies.
