Investigative journalist Bryan Burrough talked about his book The Big Rich: The Rise and Fall of the Greatest Texas Oil Fortunes (Penguin Press; January 27, 2009). In his book he presents a history of the four wealthiest oil families in Texas. Mr. Burrough details the lives of H.L. Hunt, Roy Cullen, Sid Richardson, and Clint Murchison as they accumulated wealth and ascended from local to national figures. The guest interviewer was Republican Representative Joe Barton, who represents the Sixth District of Texas.
Bryan Burrough is currently a special correspondent at Vanity Fair and was formerly a reporter for The Wall Street Journal. He is the three-time recipient of the Gerald Loeb Award for Excellence in financial journalism. Mr. Burrough is the author of several books, including Barbarians at the Gate: The Fall of RJR Nabisco that he co-authored with John Helyar.
Representative Joe Barton has represented the Sixth District of Texas since 1984. He was formerly the chairman of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce and is currently the Ranking Republican of the full Energy and Commerce Committee.
