Officials began a summit on bullying prevention. Assistant Education Secretary Delisle said that students were heading back to school for the year but there were many kids scared to step into school. She said that the problem of bullying had not diminished much less been eradicated and that the school climate was important for keeping students safe and helping to improve academic achievement.

This was the opening of the day-long summit “Keeping Kids Safe: Opportunities and Challenges in Bullying Prevention,” hosted by the Department of Education. It was the fourth summit of the Federal Partners in Bullying Prevention, an inter-agency working group. close
