Doug Elmendorf spoke about the new Congressional Budget Office (CBO) report on the budget and economic outlook. Mr. Elmendorf said that unemployment in the U.S. will remain above 8 percent for the next few years, and economic growth will continue at a relatively slow pace. CBO updated its forecast based on the passage of the compromise deficit reduction law in August 2011, finding that the plan could lead to “considerably lower” deficits over the next ten years if George W. Bush-era tax cuts and other temporary measures are allowed to expire. close
