The committee discussed the Clinton administration’s economic program legislation, the Budget Reconciliation Act. The committee was forbidden from changing the legislation by the Budget Act of 1990, but rather bundled together reconciliation recommendations to pass them out of committee. Committee members debated the worth of the administration’s legislation to reduce the deficit and help the economy, and traded sharp comments on the value of the legislation. close
