In his remarks, Governor Brown criticized the modern electoral process for alienating the American people. He pledged to operate a campaign based upon integrity and issues rather than mud-slinging and money. Governor Brown also emphasized the necessity of restoring the American economy to its former health so the next generation would not be the first to live at a lower standard of living than its parents. He pledged he would not accept campaign contributions in amounts greater than $100 per donor, and would not accept donations from political action committees. He spoke from an austere podium before Independence Hall to a crowd of approximately 200 people.
