Recent U.S. Ambassador to Brazil Thomas Shannon talked about U.S.-Brazil relations. He said that both countries needed to continue a strategic partnership. He called recent National Security Agency spying on Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff a challenge to relations between the two countries but an opportunity to expand diplomatic activities. Following his prepared remarks, he answered questions from members of the audience. Other topics included Brazil’s economic challenges, nuclear non-proliferation, and regional trade issues. Anthony Harrington, the former U.S. ambassador to Brazil during the Clinton administration, made opening remarks. close
