A hearing, titled “Determining a Champion on the Field: A Comprehensive Review of the BCS and Postseason College Football,” was held to examine college football’s Bowl Championship Series (BCS) system. College football officials testified in defense of the 8-year-old system, which matches the top two teams in the standings in a national championship game. They discussed the methods of determining college football championships, the BCS, and postseason college football. Mr. Weiberg, the coordinator of the BCS, spoke about the possibility of implementing a “plus one” model, in which the top two teams remaining after the bowls would meet in a title game.

This season’s Rose Bowl pairs the University of Southern California and the University of Texas, Austin in a match between the nation’s remaining two unbeaten teams. 4 undefeated teams remained at the end of the regular season, creating controversy in the only college sport that does not have a postseason tournament. close
