Subcommittee members heard testimony from several senators and representatives of athletic conferences concerning the college bowl alliance, which dictates that member bowl games alternate the national championship game from year to year. They testified how this alliance threatens both colleges and their players which are excluded from the conferences and bowls in this alliance with decreased earning potential and why this system is better than either the traditionally independent bowl games or a playoff system. This panel focused more on the antitrust and economic issues associated with the bowl alliance. close
