The Subcommittee on Management, Integration, and Oversight of the House Homeland Security Committee held a hearing on training border patrol agents. The Department of Homeland Security Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2006 authorized funding an additional 2,000 border patrol agents. Concerned have been raised about current capacity of the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) to absorb a significant increase in Border Patrol agents into its current training programs. The hearing examined the current capacity of FLETC to train the new border patrol agents, the extent of coordination between FLETC and the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection in this effort, and the costs associated with training border patrol agents. close
