The subcommittee heard testimony on the medical safety of the U.S.' blood supply. Earlier in the week, an Oregon blood center was discovered to have distributed blood that had been tested improperly for the AIDS and hepatitis viruses. Although the blood had not been given to a patient, concerns were raised on the center’s willingness to accept blood from infected donors. close
