Malcolm Gladwell talked about his book Blink: The Power of Thinking Without Thinking, published by Little, Brown and Company, which studied the way people made split-second decisions and other “unthinking” reactions. The book explored the concept of intuitive decision-making and snap judgments in a variety of situations and explained the benefits of such decisions. He also explained how marketers used crucial first seconds to manipulate consumers and their impressions of the product being marketed. In his talk, Mr. Gladwell dissected the snap judgment process by telling the story of the shooting of Amadou Diallo by New York City police detectives in 1999. Following his remarks he answered questions from the audience. close
