The morning session of State of the Black Union 2006 titled, “Economic Empowerment: Building and Leveraging Wealth in the African American Community,” focused on economic conditions in the black community and methods to empower both individuals and communities. Ms. Martin moderated the panel which addressed the role of corporate, community and religious organizations, the need for civic participation, and individual responsibility. Many panelists also gave practical advice on how black families and businesses could increase their wealth, purchase homes, and take advantage of the tax breaks and investment opportunities that many Americans enjoy. Participants also answered questions submitted by members of the audience.
The event was held at St. Agnes Baptist Church. The Rev. Moore gave the morning invocation.
