Professor Franklin talked about his 50-year career teaching about Lincoln and African American history. He spoke about stripping away the baggage and sentiment surrounding Lincoln and finding the man. He believes that Lincoln’s views on African-Americans evolved over time. He briefly reviewed the different viewpoints that Lincoln had considered and rejected while trying to find a way to save the Union. He asserts that by the end of Lincoln’s life he had fully embraced African- American’s equal role in American society.
