Hari Jones of the African American Civil War Memorial and Museum delivered the second part of a two-part talk about African American intelligence and espionage efforts on behalf of the Union leading up to and through the war. In this part he detailed the activities and movements of specific people of African descent on both sides of the lines, who saw the Civil War as the ultimate means of ending slavery. “For Light and Liberty: African Americans and Civil War Espionage in Washington and Beyond” was a two-part event at the Historical Society of Washington, D.C., co-sponsored by the International Spy Museum and the African American Civil War Memorial and Museum. close
