Mr. Dickinson talked about his new book, Bitter Harvest: FDR, Presidential Power and the Growth of the Presidential Branch. He distinguished between the “presidential branch,” the current system with a large White House staff composed of many advisers, and FDR’s system which he called “competitive adhocracy,” with few advisers competing to advise FDR on many policy issues. After his remarks, he took questions from the audience.
