A hearing was held to examine the state of health care coverage and biomedical research in the face of a worsening economy, as well as the effect that increased federal support would have on economic recovery. Topics included the affect of the current economic downturn on the Medicaid program and individual health care coverage. Also examined was the negative economic impact on communities and scientific progress of funding cuts to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
