Dr. Fauci delivered the keynote lecture of the symposium. His topic was, “Biodefense and Pandemic Influenza: The Research and Public Health Interface.” Other topics included international infectious disease statistics, the delicate balance of living with microbes, the evolution of viruses and bacteria, tools of biomedical research, use of anthrax in bioterrorism, under-vaccination of U.S. population for seasonal flu, and research on lethal pandemic avian flu. After his speech, which included a slide presentation, he responded to audience members' questions.

This was the first event in the School of Arts and Sciences Centennial Series and part of the Department of Biology’s annual graduate student symposium. close
