Newseum hosted a full-day symposium titled “Examining Opinion and Bias in the News: The Grant Howell Legacy Symposium” that explored the perceptions and realities of bias in news coverage.

The opening panel, moderated by Mr. McMasters, examined “Stealth Messages: Do Hidden Agendas Seep into Media Coverage?” Panelists discussed how to bring back fairness and objectivity to a skeptical audience. Among the topics they addressed were the state of current reporting, source identification, survey results on public trust in journalism, and their personal experiences in the field of journalism. Following the panel, participants responded to questions and comments from members of the audience. close
