Businessman Matt Bevin, a candidate for the Republican nomination for the U.S. Senate seat held by Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY), spoke to the press as he mingled with the crowd after the speeches at the 133rd Annual Fancy Farm Picnic. Asked about claims by Tea Party activists that it was Senator McConnell’s team that organized the departure of Republican Party-sponsored buses before Mr. Bevin’s speech, he said, “I have nine children. I’m used to childish behavior.” He criticized his primary opponent for not having any private sector experience and for his lack of accomplishments during his nearly 30-year-tenure in the U.S. Senate. When his challenge to Senaror McConnell was characterized as a “David and Goliath matchup,” Mr. Bevin replied that he had David’s faith and that “right and principle” win out over power. close
