Mr. Bernanke was sworn in as the new chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Vice Chairman Roger Ferguson administered the oath of office. Following the ceremony, President Bush spoke to reporters about the history of the Federal Reserve, the policies of former Chairman Alan Greenspan, and the qualifications of Mr. Bernanke. Then, the new chairman thanked the president and spoke about expectations for the future.
