Committee members heard testimony from Department of Defense officials concerning a report by a Pentagon task force led by Wayne Downing after its investigation into the bombing of a U.S. airbase, Khobar Towers, in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia on June 25. The report cited military officials, especially the commander of the airbase, for not making the living quarters there as safe as possible. Defense Secretary William Perry accepted full responsibility for the incident and emphasized how the U.S. is now responding to the security needs of its forces. close
