The C-SPAN School bus stopped in Birmingham Alabama and talked with Reverend Christopher Hamlin about the history of the 16th Street Baptist Church, which was the first African-American residential church founded in Birmingham in 1873. It also served as the focus of the civil rights movement in Birmingham in 1963. The church was bombed on September 15, 1963, killing four young women. close
