The organization Focus on the Family held a news conference criticizing the Chicago based American Library Association’s promotion of “Banned Books Week.” Focus on Family representatives stressed deceitfulness of the campaign, noting no censoring of books occurred. They further pointed out that parents and teachers have a right to debate what children and adults should be reading and could take methods to prevent reading material from distribution if those persons disagreed with the content. Lisa Clinton, a Florida parent, talked about her efforts to prevent her child from reading a “Goosebumps” books. The Goosebumps series of books featured horror themes, including murder, revenge, and graphic violence. close
