Guests examined the history of the early struggle for civil rights and the development of modern black culture through the writings of Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois. Among the topics addressed were the rise of the black press, black involvement in higher education, political movements, and differences between the two authors.

The program was telecast from the Washington’s home on the grounds of Tuskegee University and the Du Bois Library at the University of Massachusetts and featured several artifacts and writings held at the locations. close
