The House Government Operations Subcommittee heard testimony on the Pentagon’s B-1 bomber program. GAO Representatives cited design issues with the B-1 bomber, including its faulty engine blade and faulty de-icing system. Charles Barron, President of A.I.L. Systems, Inc., the company responsible for the bomber’s avionics systems, responded to criticism of the aircraft. Mr. Pierro, an executive of Rockwell, Intl., the producer of the plane, advocated the production of the B-1 bomber based on the advantages it will give the U.S. military once the recovery program is complete. Members of the U.S. Air Force advocated the continuation of the B-1 bomber program. close
