The House ways and Means Subcommittee chaired by Representative Phil Crane, R- Illinois, heard testimony from members of Congress, labor and business leaders. Charlene Barshefsky, U.S. Trade Representative, testified regarding the fast-track trade authority which would allow trade agreements to move rapidly through Congress. Ms. Barshefsky indicated that the White House is willing to endorse a compromise bill that attempts to bridge moderate Democrats and conservative Republicans on provisions in trade agreements regarding workers' rights. close
