Mr. Burns talked about his book and the PBS series The War, which was a documentary on World War II. Ms. See talked about her personal history and her book Peony in Love: A Novel and the role of women in China. Mr. Hosseini talked about the lives of two Afghani women as they lived through political changes in Afghanistan.
The particpants were Ken Burns, author (with Geoffrey C. Ward) of The War: An Intimate History, 1941 - 1945 (Alfred A. Knopf); Lisa See, author of Peony in Love: A Novel (Random House); and Khaled Hosseini, author of the novel A Thousand Splendid Suns (Riverhead Books). The moderator was Stephen Colbert, author of I Am America and So Can You (Warner Books/Hachette Book Group USA).
