The survey conducted by Harris explores Americans' attitudes towards race. Specifically, the survey sought to accomplish three things: (1) to track the attitudes about race relations over time, (2) to learn more about the American underclass, and (3) to contribute to the debate over civil rights. The survey finds that while many blacks feel racism still exists, many whites do not. However, both favor policies to improve the conditions of the underclass. Also discussed, in considerable detail, is the actual conducting of the the poll. close
