As part of the “Kalb Report” series on journalism at the crossroads, Mr. Rather talked about media coverage of terrorist attacks on the United States and the roles and responsibilities of television news in covering the subsequent efforts to combat global terrorism. Among the topics they addressed were new broadcast technologies, tensions between national security concerns and free speech, and the nature of covert warfare. Following their remarks they answered questions from the audience.
