The Atomic Bomb: Decision and Implementation

discussed was the decision by President Truman and military leaders to use the atomic bomb on Japan to end World War II and the controversy over whether Japan would have surrendered without dropping the first two atomic bombs.

They talked about the historical and cultural controversies surrounding the decision to use nuclear weapons on Japan .

Fred Bock, who flew the instrument plane on the Nagasaki mission on August 9, 1945, participated in the panel discussion. The plane that dropped the second bomb on Nagasaki was nicknamed Bock’s Car.
