Madalyn O’Hair, the atheist activist, spoke to the meeting of American Atheists, in which she founded, on the role of the atheist in a society of religions. She noted the overwhelming pressure of the religious on the thought and actions of the atheist and noted aspects of society in which religion has retained unnecessary influence, including education. At one point, Ms. O’Hair called the theory of creationism a “voodoo tenet” of Judeo-Christianity. close
