A hearing was held on allegations of asbestos exposure at Smithsonian Institution museums. It was held in response to a Washington Post story about a worker at the National Air and Space Museum who was diagnosed with a lung disease. The head of the Smithsonian, Wayne Clough, testified in the first panel. In his remarks Mr. Clough stated that the museums are safe and in compliance with OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) and EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) standards and regulations, and outlined steps taken by the Smithsonian in response to concerns. close
