Former Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher spoke about U.S. and Russian nuclear arsenals. She said the U.S. and Russia should further reduce their nuclear arsenals down to 1000 deployed weapons and 2500 weapons overall. The former undersecretary of state for arms control said that a new arms treaty was unlikely in the next couple of years, and that new reductions should be done after accounting for the nuclear programs in Iran and North Korea. Topics included budgetary restraints. This was the opening keynote address at the Fifth Annual Nuclear Deterrence Summit, “Maintaining a Credible Deterrent Amidst Funding Constraints,” held February 19-22, 2013, at the Renaissance Capital View Hotel by ExchangeMonitor Publications and Forums. close
