Army Secretary Pete Geren and General Peter Chiarelli held a media roundtable to provide calendar year suicide data. Yearly increases in suicides have been recorded since 2004 and are now at a three-decade high mark. The military health care system has been overwhelmed by caring for huge numbers of troops suffering from post-traumatic stress, depression and other mental health problems as well as physical care for tens of thousands of wounded. They also presented an update on Army initiatives in order to eliminate suicide from the Army. close
