Army Secretary Pete Geren and General Peter Chiarelli held a media roundtable to provide calendar year suicide data. Yearly increases in suicides have been recorded since 2004 and are now at a three-decade high mark. The military health care system has been overwhelmed by caring for huge numbers of troops suffering from post-traumatic stress, depression and other mental health problems as well as physical care for tens of thousands of wounded.
