The House Foreign Affairs subcommittees on Europe and the Middle East, Economic Policy, Trade, and Environment, and International Security, International Organizations and Human Rights heard testimony on Iraq’s nuclear weapons program. The subcommittees discussed the findings of a study by the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on International Affairs staff found Iraq to have rebuilt 80 percent of its military might lost in the Persian Gulf War, without violating the U.N. restrictions against the production of chemical and nuclear weapons in Iraq. Witnesses discussed the possibility of Iraq renewing military conflict with other countries in the near future, and the impact of an armed Iraq on international relations in the Middle East. close
