The 2005 Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission held a regional hearing on the list of possible closures and realignments of defense bases. Elected officials and community representatives testified about the impact of closing or realigning military installations in Texas and Arkansas. The installations under consideration were the Red River Defense Complex (TX), Army Ammunition Plant (Texarcana, TX), Arkansas Air National Guard Base (Little Rock), and Little Rock Air Force Base (AR).
