Committee members debated language for two separate supplemental appropriations bills for fiscal year 1998. One bill includes $1.8 billion for military operations in the Persian Gulf and Bosnia and $570 million for disaster relief. The other includes $505 million for the United Nations and $18 billion in credits for the International Monetary Fund. Members debated where the offsets for this additional spending should be and what types of conditions to attach to the second bill. close
