Sam Dillon talked about the Obama administration’s announcement earlier in the month that states would be allowed to apply for waivers for a key provision on math and reading proficiency. Mr. Dillon responded to telephone calls and electronic communications as he discussed topics including the political and policy “deadlock” in Congress on educational issues and the subsequent need to provide state relief; the process for waivers; the historic role of the federal government in education; and the problems that the federal role brings with it. close
