Harold Holzer, co-chairman of the U.S. Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, talked about the book he edited, The Lincoln Anthology: Great Writers on His Life and Legacy from 1860 to Now (Library of America; December 26, 2008). The book is an examination of how Abraham Lincoln’s historical and literary image has changed from the late 19th Century to today. Mr. Holzer was joined by actress Anna Deavere Smith, who read selections written by Lincoln and others.

Harold Holzer is the author of numerous books on the Civil War and Abraham Lincoln, including Lincoln at Cooper Union that was the recipient of the Lincoln Prize in 2005. Mr. Holzer is the co-chairman of the U.S. Lincoln Bicentennial Commission and is the senior vice president for external affairs at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. close
